Friday, Nov. 3/23 BIA Update: Hate Graffiti, Construction, Cyber Security

Good Afternoon BIA Folks,

I hope everyone has had a good week.  A quick reminder that we change the time this weekend - we fall back an hour to Standard Time.  With this time change it will be getting dark earlier so extra care is needed when heading home - it always takes a bit to adjust to these time changes.

Here is the information that I have for you today:

Increased Hate Graffiti in the Area:
  • Many of you have been reaching out to me about this issue.  We've seen an increase in hate graffiti over the past two weeks given the events taking place in Gaza.
  • Hate graffiti is a hate crime and as such needs to be reported to the police.  I've been in touch with PC Little - our area police officer - and I apparently can't be the one who makes the reports.  Each of you need to make a report if you see hate graffiti near your business.  You are to call the Police non-emergency line at 416-808-2222.  Hate crimes can NOT be reported on-line - you need to make the call.  An Officer will attend the area, take photos, do forensics and then the Officer will put in the request to the City to come and remove the graffiti, posters etc.
  • The police are currently being very active in dealing with this issue.  One person has been arrested but others are still being sought.  The police are looking for one individual specifically - here is a link to the release the police have issued for this person.  Please take a minute to review the release - https://tps.to/57795
Broadview Construction:
  • We finally have crews working again in our Broadview north section.  Erindale is now fully blocked off except for allowing the home owners in that block access to their homes.  According to my meeting with the TTC this morning they are still on schedule to complete all of this work by Nov. 20.  We will see how they have progressed by this time next week and I will provide another update.
  • The sewer rehabilitation work is still scheduled to start on Nov. 20.  For our BIA members in Broadview North and South you should be receiving your hard copy notices starting as of yesterday.  I had also included these notices with my update last Friday.
Cyber Security for Your Business:
  • This is an important issue for all businesses.  Below please find information on a course being offered to businesses so you can learn how to protect yourselves.  Please read through the information and there is a link provided to enroll in the course.

That's it for today.

Thanks
Susan
