Open Streets TO Vote Summary + 2nd Vote Requested

Thank you for expressing your opinions regarding the proposed Open Streets TO event.

As you recall the event organizers proposed to close the Bloor-Danforth corridor to vehicular traffic, from High Park to Withrow Park between 8 am and 1 pm, on four Sundays in July and August.

The Danforth BIA had suggested a one day trial event in an off-peak month would be a more appropriate trial for such a significant undertaking.

On the specific proposal for a four Sunday event you voted overwhelmingly against; the split was 75% no, 25% yes, and three votes for either way.

On the other hand, your comments suggest that there is support for a one day trial.

As recent press reports indicate the current proposal is encountering some opposition, with the expectation that organizers will come forward with a modified event.

The BIA Board of Directors agree that a one day trial event merits support.
We are, therefore, asking our members to indicate whether or not you would support, in principal, a one day event.

This event has the potential to bring significant numbers of people into our neighbourhood, which is at the Eastern terminus of the proposed route and which would be a major organized activity hub. We also believe that there is support in our surrounding neighbourhood for this event.

Please provide your vote and comments by the end of business on Monday, April 28/14. - either by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or by phone at 416-429-4479
