Request for Temporary Rent Freeze Action

Good Afternoon All,

I've been on the phone this morning with a few of you - there is frustration that our Premier has not stepped up and legislated a rent freeze for small and medium businesses for the next 60 or 90 days.  The measures announced yesterday by the Prime Minister will provide some assistance but do not deal with the immediate concern about rent.  In all the conversations and emails that I've had with our government reps this week this is still an issue that is not being dealt with.  I pointed out to our government people that if the Premier can, in a very short time, allow alcohol to be included in take-out and deliver orders then he should be able to institute a temporary rent freeze in a very short amount of time. We have also urged Mayor Tory to step up and push the Premier on this urgent issue.

So once again I'm asking you to send an email to our Premier and our Mayor urging them to take steps on a temporary rent freeze before April 1st - that's 4 days from now.

Nathan, the owner of The Auld Spot Pub sent me the article below - NYC is pushing for a temporary rent freeze.

Please address your email to Premier Ford and Mayor Tory and include our other government reps in the email.  Here are the email addresses:

Also, as a clarification on the PM's announcement about the $40k no interest loan yesterday - my understanding is that this is not part of the BDC.  This is a special fund outside of the BDC which will be available to small businesses.  However the PM stated that he will announce full details on this by Monday - so let's see if this is or isn't part of the BDC - obviously our hope is that it isn't part of the BDC.

Here's the link to the NYC article.

Again, thank you for your help in this - I sound like a broken record these days but... the more voices we have speaking out on these issues, the better chance we have of making some headway.

Susan
