May 15/20: Live Stream Media Conference + Wage Subsidy Update

Good Afternoon All,

This afternoon at 2pm NDP Party Leader Andrea Horwath will be hosting a media conference to discuss the issues surrounding commercial rent relief.  Ms. Horwath will be joined by our MPP Peter Tabuns, and our BIA business members Ginger Robertson (The Edmund Burke, Off The Hook) and Nathan Hynes (The Auld Spot), and our BIA Board Treasurer Philip Kocev (iPro Realty) and Valerie Mah VP for the Chinese Chamber of Commerce East Toronto.

This media conference will be live streamed on our Broadiview Danforth BIA Facebook page.  For those who wish to watch here is the link:

Wage Subsidy Program Extension:
This morning the PM announced that the 75% wage subsidy program will be extended to the end of August.  He also stated that he will be working with business and industry stakeholders over the next month to see if certain components of this program need to be revised in order to improve and ease program eligibility.

The PM sadly did not provide any updates on the CECRA program.  It's now day 22 since he announced the program; and, it's now 22 days without any updates or indication when this program will be opened.

Tuesday, May 19th Retail Openings:
I'm hoping that any of our retail members who are planning to open next week can let me know along with any details about hours etc.  We'd like to be able to post the information on our social media platforms and website.

Again, please remember to review the information that I circulated yesterday on what you need to have in place before you open your doors to the public.  Safety is the number one priority as we do these reopenings.  Unfortunately the Province had a problem yesterday with their data collection on new Covid cases - the numbers were incorrect and were not the lowest we've seen in 6 weeks.  Today they have stated that we have 428 new cases which is an increase.  So please be careful as you plan your reopenings.

Thanks,
Susan
