Business Security Reminders

Good Afternoon All,

I know that most of you are aware that we've had a few more break and enters over the long weekend. This is an on-going issue throughout the City in recent months.  Over the past few weeks there's been an increase in incidents just south of us on Queen East plus the incidents in our own BIA.

I've spoken to our area police again this morning and they asked that I once again remind each of to:

  1. Report any incident - I can't stress this enough.  When I ask for increased patrols these reports are the back-up for my request.
  2. Please ensure that you have the No Cash On Premises stickers prominently placed on your front door.  If you have a cash drawer, place it by your front door showing that it is empty.  If you don't have this sticker or need a new one please let me know and I will drop one off to you.
  3. Most of you don't have cash on your premises over night BUT you do have laptops, ipads etc. The police strongly urge you to take these home with you each night.  These are the items that thieves are looking to take as they can sell them quickly.
  4. If you have video surveillance please ensure that your system is working correctly and you may want to post a sign indicating that your business has video surveillance.  Both of the businesses hit this past weekend had good video that they were able to provide to the police.

Attached is the security/safety review card from the police - a checklist of things you should know and do.

Below is the link to the police news release on the person who has been hitting Queen East. The police are still looking for him.  We don't know that this is the person who did the break and enters in our area. http://torontopolice.on.ca/newsreleases/49866

If you have any questions or need further information please let me know.

Thanks,

Susan

!!! UPDATE May 27, 2021 !!!

One of your BIA colleagues asked that I share this link with you - it's for a security film that can be applied to your windows to protect them from smashing.  I'll let you all check it out to see if it might be a good solution for your particular needs.  Here's the link:
