Nine Candidates to Engage in Trash Talk on the Danforth

Nine Candidates to Engage in Trash Talk on the Danforth
Mayor and Council Candidates Respond to Danforth BIA Earth Day Challenge

Toronto (April 20, 2010) – Nine Toronto candidates and their supporters are preparing to clean up this city one block at a time, beginning Saturday April 24, 10:30am, on the Danforth.

Four candidates for mayor and five for councillor in Wards 29 and 30 have accepted a challenge by the Danforth Business Improvement Association (Danforth BIA) to compete in a community Earth Day cleanup.

“We are delighted that so many have accepted our challenge,” said Susan Puff, Executive Director of the Danforth BIA. “This will be a fun opportunity for candidates and their volunteers to get out into our community, show their environmental credentials and engage in a little friendly inter-campaign trash talk.”

Every team will be assigned a two block area and given 15 minutes to clean it up. At stake is the coveted Danforth Earth Day Trash Can Trophy and bragging rights to the team that hauls in the most trash in the specified time.

The candidates are: (For Mayor) Rob Ford, Giorgio Mammoliti, Rocco Rossi and Sarah Thompson. (For Council) Chris Caldwell, Andrew James, Jane Pitfield, Michael Restivo and Jennifer Wood.

The Danforth BIA Earth Day Trash Challenge begins at 10:30 a.m. at The Music Hall, 147 Danforth Avenue.

The Danforth BIA works with more than 350 merchants, restaurants and services to provide a unique, urban shopping, dining and entertainment experience along Danforth Avenue.
