A Town Hall on Bill 108: A Plan to Sideline Local Communities and Bring Back the OMB

A Town Hall on Bill 108: A Plan to Sideline Local Communities and Bring Back the OMB

Dear Friends,

We've worked together to ensure that development is responsive to the local community, now Bill 108, Doug Ford’s plan to bring back the OMB and to amend 13 different statutes related to planning and land use will have damaging impacts on people and municipalities of every size.

The proposed changes to the Planning Act, Local Planning Appeal Tribunal Act, 2017, Ontario Heritage Act, and Development Charges Act will marginalize local communities in the planning process and make important changes to key tools that help fund essential infrastructure and vital services including libraries, daycares and parks.

Bill 108 is being fast-tracked for approval with almost no time for residents to respond. Cities, and towns across Ontario are grappling to understand the implications and to make their voices heard.

On Monday, May 27, 2019 at 7pm, join me along with Toronto East York Councillors Josh Matlow, Gord Perks, Kristyn Wong-Tam, Mike Layton, Joe Cressy, Ana Bailão and Brad Bradford, along with Toronto’s Chief Planner Gregg Lintern, to learn about how Bill 108 will impact your community and how you can have your say before it is too late.

Read the Chief Planner's report and presentation to Council on Bill 108.

When: Monday, May 27, 2019 at 7pm

Where: Council Chambers, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street West

I look forward to hearing your comments and seeing you there.

Working for you,

Paula Fletcher
City Councillor
Ward 14, Toronto-Danforth

Stop the Cuts:

On April 11, 2019, the Province of Ontario tabled its 2019 budget. It included unilateral, retroactive cuts to the City of Toronto’s already approved 2019 budget. These funding cuts – about $177 million in 2019 alone – will directly impact services the people of Toronto need and expect from its governments.

Demand the Province of Ontario reverse the funding cuts it has made to the City of Toronto by signing this petition.
Sign the Petition Here!
What’s being cut?
  • $65 million for Toronto Public Health (more than $1 billion over 10 years, affecting services like vaccinations and child nutrition programs).
  • $84.8 million for Children’s Services (threatening much-needed subsidies to more than 6,100 childcare spaces for families).
  • $3.85 million a year for Toronto Paramedic Services (affecting ambulance wait times for an already critical service).
  • $24 million from the cancellation of committed Provincial Gas Tax Funding (more than $1 billion over 10 years for TTC maintenance).
Read the City Manager's Report for more information on these cuts.
