April 8 Updates

Good Afternoon All,

The PM has just finished his daily briefing - it ran long today.  Here are the details from that briefing plus a few other things:

75% Wage Subsidy Program:
The Cabinet is meeting this afternoon.  This program has still not been passed by the Legislature. The
PM indicated that he hoped to have this program available within 3 weeks.
This program has been changed from its original parameters as follows:
- To be eligible businesses will now only have to show a revenue decrease of 15% (lowered from the original 30%) for the month of March 2020 and may use their revenue figures from Jan. and Feb. of this year as their reference to the March revenue dip (this is instead of having to show your revenue from March of 2019).
- This wage subsidy will be retro-active to March 15, 2020 - once it's approved by the gov't and rolled out to businesses.
Expanded Emergency Response Benefits:
- This program is being expanded to include workers who didn't qualify in the first phase of the ERB - contract workers, freelance workers.  This hasn't been rolled out yet - PM indicated it would be very soon.
Student Summer Jobs Programs:
The PM announced that the government will cover 100% of the student wages and the program will be extended into the winter and will also allow for hiring students part-time.   Further details are still to come on this program's enhancements.

Other things:
- The Toronto Board of Trade has added a Covid19 section to it's website.  In this section you can find all of the information on funding programs and you can talk to someone there if you have questions or need help filling out forms etc.  I encourage you to take a look and read through the information provided.
Rent Payment Status:
I know that some of you have been able to negotiate rent payments with your landlords; but, I also know that some of you have not.  If you could please email me and provide an update on where you stand at the moment that would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Susan
