Good afternoon,

Earlier today the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy system went live and began taking applications. CEWS will provide a subsidy up to 75% of employee wages for eligible businesses for up to 12 weeks, retroactive to March 15 through June 6, 2020. The first payments should go out May 7th. You can access the application site here: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/subsidy/emergency-wage-subsidy.html

On Friday the government released initial information about the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance program. The program falls under the jurisdiction of the province and will be administered through CMHC to qualifying landlords. It will provide tenants with a 75% reduction in rents for April and May retroactively, as well as June. You can read the Federal government's news release HERE <https://pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releases/2020/04/24/prime-minister-announces-partnerships-provinces-and-territories> and the Province of Ontario's news release HERE<https://news.ontario.ca/opo/en/2020/04/ontario-canada-emergency-commercial-rent-assistance-program.html>. There are no additional details at this time, but the program is slated to launch in early May.

Finally, The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister for Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, will be hosting an Entrepreneur Town Hall to discuss the federal assistance programs that have been launched. It will take place Tuesday April 28th at 6pm ET. Click HERE <https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_QpEFZL0JRv2ayAhN2UBTNA> to register.

As always, please don't hesitate to get in touch if you need assistance with or have questions about the federal government's response to COVID-19.

Thank you,

Tom
