Friday, Sept. 1/23 Update: New Road Closure...

Happy September 1st All,

I honestly can't believe it's already September.  This summer season has been a challenging one for our BIA - massive amounts of construction, issues with the new CafeTO system and rolling out Taste for the first time since 2019.  Unfortunately the construction will continue for us into the Fall season.  I want to thank all of you for the patience you've shown during the summer and thank you in advance for the patience you will need during the upcoming Fall months.  Where possible I try to fix problems or at the very least try to minimize the impact of the problems but sadly a lot of the things on our plate are beyond my control so your patience truly is appreciated.  Okay here's where we're at and what's heading our way:

Broadview Danforth Intersection Work:
  • Some good news - the crews are getting close to completing the current work on the south side of this intersection.
  • We're planning to try and open the intersection late tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.  This means that we will be able to restore full eastbound traffic flow.
  • With the intersection open we will be able to restore the loading zone area on the south west corner of Broadview and Danforth (by the Pizza Pizza) early next week.  This will be welcome news to our members located on Broadview south.
Broadview South Construction:
  • Work is proceeding to schedule but it is a mess in this section.
  • We still just have the one northbound traffic lane, the current delivery zone will remain just south of Loblaws - but we will add the second zone per my notes above.
  • The crew will begin the grinding and paving work south of our section - Gerrard to Sparkhall.
  • A full drop off and pick up plan has been created for the Montcrest School starting this Tuesday so kids can safely get to and from school.
NEW CLOSURE - BROADVIEW NORTH:
  • Starting on Monday, September 11/23 our section of Broadview from Danforth to Erindale will be completely closed to all traffic and the work on the tracks on Broadview and on the surface level of the station will begin. This closure will be in effect for at least 30 days.
  • Sidewalks will remain open, people can access the subway but all buses will be rerouted.  Attached  please find the TTC notice which provides full details.
  • Local traffic will be allowed between Erindale and Pretoria on Broadview, traffic rerouting in order to head west on the Bloor Viaduct will happen on Cambridge Ave.
  • For our BIA members in the completely closed section you will have to let your customers and clients know that they will need to park and then walk to your business.
  • As we have with Broadview South, we will have Traffic Agents and Police officers positioned in this section to direct traffic and people.
  • The Green P at Erindale will remain open however in the TPA's infinite wisdom they decided that this was the perfect time to cordon off the north east corner of the lot in order to install EV chargers.  This was a fight that I didn't win.  This work will continue until the end of September.
BD Beats Final Weekend:
  • Sadly this is our final weekend for our BD Beats Summer live music program.  We have Ori Dagan playing tonight on Danforth between Bowden and Hampton; and, The Toronto Jazz Collective wrapping up the program on Sunday afternoon in the courtyard of the Carrot Common.
  • I'd like to send a huge thanks to Jane Noonan (Noonan's) and Mandy GoodHandy (Epochal Imp) for all of their time and work booking the amazing local bands this summer. And a big thanks to our sponsors: The Carrot Common, Fresh Restaurants and Choice Properties (division of Loblaws).
I hope you all have a great and safe long weekend.

Thanks,
Susan
