End of Week Update from MP Julie Dabrusin

Hi All,

Our Federal MP Julie Dabrusin has sent an update - see below.  Please note that I've included Julie in the top send line of this email - should you wish to send a reply to Julie please hit "reply all".

Thanks kindly,
Susan

Good Afternoon,
As we end another challenging week I wanted to send a quick update to make sure you are all up to speed on the latest federal efforts to support businesses and employers.

  *   The Canadian Emergency Wage Subsidy<https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/economic-response-plan/wage-subsidy.html> details have been announced and the input process should be up and running within 3-6 weeks. The subsidy will cover up to 75% of wages to a yearly annual amount of $58700. The subsidy can be backdated to March 15th and can run for 12 weeks.
  *   The Canadian Emergency Business Account will soon be issuing interest-free loans of up to $40,000 through Canadian banks. Applications will be open as of April 6. Many businesses are already receiving emails from their financial institutions.
  *   Sales tax remittances<https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/economic-response-plan/covid19-businesses.html#deferral_sales_tax_remittance_customs_duty_payments> and taxes that became due as of March 15 have been deferred

Please note that all of the most recent information and updated links to programs can be found here: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/economic-response-plan.html

When programs launch you are encouraged to apply (where possible) using the Canada Business App, which you can download from the app store or learn more about here: https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/icgc.nsf/eng/h_07670.html?open&WT.mc_id=CanadaBusinessApp_GC-partner_banner_en

For anyone whose income has been impacted by COVID-19, the Canada Emergency Response Benefit<https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/cerb-application.html> will open for applications this coming week. More information on eligibility can be found here: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/cerb-application.html

On a personal/local note: I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to talk to me about the challenges faced by our local businesses.  From these conversations with small business owners, landlords, and customers, I understand that there continue to be many issues to be resolved.  Your input is important and has already had an impact on the development of policies, such as the HST deferral and changes to the wage subsidy, among others.  Please continue to reach out to provide me with your feedback.

Also, please know that I and my office team are here to provide support as you try to navigate these new programs.

If you would like to arrange a catch-up call in the next few days, or if you questions, want to share feedback, or require support with existing programs, please respond to this email and Tom from my office will set up a time to connect by phone.

Thank you and please stay safe and healthy.
